Leaders ask protesting farmers to follow Covid-19 protocols

A massive nationwide farmers’ protest is being observed in India on Friday. Leaders including Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has asked farmers to maintain social distancing norms as India continues to report the highest number of cases in the world. Since farmers protests will be held throughout most parts of the country, it could lead to a sharp increase in cases as such protests often see social distancing norms being maintained. It remains to be seen whether the country’s farmers manage to successfully protest while adhering to all Covid-19 protocols.
