Covid cases spike, people stay away from malls, restaurants in Unlock 1.0

Coronavirus cases in India now stand at 2.56 lakh with the daily rise in coronavirus cases touching almost 10,000 every day. India is now ranked 5th in the world rankings of number of coronavirus cases and is only below the United States, United Kingdom, Brazil and Russia. India, however, has fewer number of Covid deaths compared to these countries. Coronavirus death toll in India now stands at 7,135 while the global death toll is at 4 lakh. India on Monday reopened the places of worship, restaurants, malls and most other public places in the second phase of Unlock 1.0 although the number of Covid cases is only rising. However, most temples and mosques were found empty on Monday as people preferred to stay indoors to avoid catching the virus. A few states like Jharkhand and Odisha refrained from reopening the malls and restaurants while some states opened up hotels as well. However, footfall across states has been minimum.
