Brian P Kempt, governor of the state of Georgia, declared a state of emergency in Fulton county and ordered the deployment of 500 National Guard troops as protests turned violent in Atlanta.
Police in Atlanta said protesters lit fires and looted businesses in downtown Atlanta.
